We welcome you as a high school student to spend up to seven weeks in the studios of Pacific Northwest College of Art this summer building your portfolio and developing a strategy for applying to art colleges. We offer a three-week Foundation Intensive plus two one-week Studio Sessions. Each of these can be taken separately, or you can combine up to all three for up to seven weeks in the studio.

Our three-week Pre-College Foundation Intensive lets you experience first hand what your Foundation year at art school will be like. You bring your imagination, and we'll offer training in and access to 2D, 3D, and digital tools to turn your ideas into finished works.

Our one-week Studio Sessions give you additional time and support to further develop your work by focusing on the discipline that interests you most. Choices for Studio Session Week One (July 31-August 4) include: Figure Drawing, Illustration + Visual Storytelling, or Animated Arts: 2D. Choices for Studio Session Week Two (August 7-11) include Figure Painting, Illustration: Character + World, or Animated Arts: 3D.

Our campus is a space created by artists for artists. While students are here, we introduce them to the Portland art scene, include them in PNCA events, and connect them with mentors who can guide them outside of the classroom. We have a team of people who are on standby to talk through how to choose the right art school and go through the actual steps it takes to document work and assemble a portfolio. Our instructors are generous artists who will also be glad to offer a safe haven where students can talk through concerns or questions they may have about being a professional artist.

Applicant families must meet free/reduced lunch eligibility criteria. Please provide documentation of such eligibility to ce@pnca.edu or by mail. Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. We ask that you submit your materials before May 1st.
