Every year our Pre-College summer courses give high school students like you the chance to experience art college while challenging yourself to push your art to the next level. With each course, you also have the opportunity to work with counselors who can advise you on building the best portfolio to get into the art school of your dreams.
The Program greatly exceeded my expectations! I didn’t expect as much honest care and helpful instruction as was graciously given by my instructors. I can’t even begin to put into words the excitement for my future that this class has instilled in me. –PCS Student, 2015
We offer a three-week Foundation Intensive plus two one-week Studio Sessions. Each of these can be taken separately, or you can combine up to all three for up to seven weeks in the studio.
Students experience what art school is really like, developing new skills while bringing an imaginary world to life. During the first week of the intensive, students learn how to discuss, define, and design imaginary worlds using 2D skills. Through the process, students work with design two-dimensional elements such as shape, value, texture, color, line, space, and mass. Building on concepts developed in 2D design, students move into three dimensions, uisng the placement of an object within a suitable background to create the illusion of depth. The second week students use digital tools to transform their 2D concepts, drawn by hand, into digital 3D images. The final week all concepts are brought together and students acquire materials to build their worlds within 8 foot by 8 foot spaces located in a PNCA gallery. All work can be used as a stand out portfolio piece, and mentors will be on hand to guide the documentation process.
Students will also have a guidance counselor to coach them through all aspects and steps of choosing the right art school, developing the most competitive packet for submission, and where to find scholarships.
Fee: $2,385 (3 college credits available for a $60 fee--please note: this credit can be applied to the first year of college)
In each of two weeks of studio sessions, students choose one area of focus. During these sessions, students can expect to receive instruction to fine tune areas where growth is needed and build pieces that showcase their technical skills and design capabilities.
